CHESTNUT CENTRE

THE FEATURE

The Chestnut Centre is a Wildlife and Conservation Park taking it's name from the mature tree near the car park entrance gate, which was officially planted to commemorate Queen Victoria's Coronation. It is set in 50 acres of landscaped parkland on the lower slopes of the Kinder Scout Plateau on the A625,  near Chapel-en-le-Frith.

Founded in 1984, the centre is home to one of Europe's largest groups of multi-specied otters, owls and other other indigenous wildlife. Visitors are able to wander along a circular nature trail and observe otters, owls. deer, foxes, wildcats and other wildlife in near natural surroundings. A bonus for visitors is that animals can be adopted to make future visits even more interesting.

Tea room and picnic areas.

Free Parking.

Wildlife Gift Shop for unusual Souvenirs.

School parties and groups welcomed. Guided tours, and worksheets provided. Special discounts available.

It is regretted that dogs are not allowed in the Park (except guide dogs for the blind).

Feeding of birds and mammals is not allowed - all of them have specialised diets.

Chestnut Centre (Tel. 01298 814099) is home to one of Europe's largest groups of multi-specied otters, owls and other other indigenous wildlife. It is situated in wooded parkland and visitors follow circular trail to observe the wildlife. There is a shop and tea room and also picnic tables. Open every day between 10.30am and 5.30pm. CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH FEATURE

 

The small town of Chapel-en-le-Frith is situated on a high ridge surrounded by hills, six miles to the north of Buxton, close to the border with Cheshire.

 

The eye-catching cobbled Market Place rises up from the main street, standing 776 feet above sea level, with a market cross, stocks and a number of colourful old inns setting the scene.
