DERBY PUBS

 BABINGTON ARMS

Location:  A quarter of the way up Babington Lane, facing towards Gower Street.

Historical Information:  The site where the Babington Arms now stands was redeveloped in the early 1960s; the pub itself was opened in 1997 and, is part of the J D Wetherspoon pub chain.

Sign:  Revives the name of a previous pub that closed after over 75 years, in the mid-1920s. The pub stood at the top corner of Babington Lane, where it intersects with Green Lane.

Curiosities:  During the summer and at other times of the year when the weather is suitable, the frontage is folded back to provide an unusual platform seating area. This enables customers to enjoy their refreshment in a slightly elevated position above street level.
