PEAK DISTRICT AND DERBYSHIRE

THE FEATURE

The breathtaking hills and crags of the Dark Peak contrast sharply with the chocolate box villages further south. Whether you want to get away form it all and walk on the moors or just explore the delightful towns and villages of the White Peak there is always plenty to do. Visit Chatsworth House, 'The Palace of the Peak' or travel back in time and visit Crich Tramway Village, where you can take a trip on a vintage tram.

The ancient custom of well dressing is almost unique to Derbyshire and the Peak District, and provides a colourful spectacle well worth a visit to one of the many of the towns and villages in the area during well dressing week. Many of the venues organise all kinds of entertainment. For a list of well dressings and other information, click here

There is no better way of exploring the beautiful countryside of Derbyshire and the Peak District, than by bicycle. The area has a number of disused railway trails, that provide miles of mostly flat, traffic free routes for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

Cycle Hire Centres, conveniently located next to the trails provide well maintained bikes to suit individual needs, including cycles suitable for use by people with disabilities. There are picnic sites, refreshments and toilets at all the centres. Car parking is also available and every centre is accessible by bus. For more information, click here.

Details of nearby attractions are listed for all the Town/Village features and walks on this site. You are bound to find plenty to do wherever you stay. For a full list click here.
