About the walk

Enjoy an eight-mile or shorter 2 mile family walk around Carsington Water, an award winning venue that makes for a full fun-packed day out in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside.  Both walks will start at the picnic area to the right of the visitor centre and will take you around the lovely Carsington Water where you will enjoy the wonderful wildlife and fantastic views.  There is a pub en-route where you can stop for a well earned break, before making your way back to the restaurant and shops at the visitor centre.

Walk Information

Registration will be open from 9.00 am.

8 Mile Circular Walk - The walk will commence from 10.00 am and will follow the marked anti clockwise route around the edge of the lake.  Passing through Carsington Village before returning to the visitor Centre.  Manageable for most abilities, but not suitable for young children. Part of the walk is more challenging with some steep hills. Depending on weather, some of the route may be slippery underfoot.  Not suitable for prams and wheelchairs.

2 Mile Family Walk - This shorter route will consist of walking 1 mile in an anticlockwise direction around the lake from the starting point to the wonderful viewing area at which point you will turn around and walk back to the start/finish point.  The family walk will commence at 12.00 noon. This walk is suitable for families with small children, prams and also wheelchair users.

Car Parking – There is a car park at the start/finish which costs £3.50 for all day parking.

Toilets – yes at the visitor centre and at the Millfields Car Park (half way point for the family walk)

Dogs – Dogs are welcome, but please remember to keep on a lead.  All dogs taking part will receive a free goody bag!

People who haven’t previously registered for the walk will be able to register on the day and will receive their tee-shirt, certificate & medal for completing the walk.

You are not required to complete the whole route to qualify for your tee-shirt medal and certificate.
